Not everyone can make it in sales. Some people don't have the guts, while others come off too strong. Sales require finesse and knowledge. Sales needs someone who will not only follow through on what they say, but will also be there after the check has been cashed. Let's take a few moments to go over the dos and don'ts of sales: 1. DO know your product- Nobody wants to jump on board with someone that doesn't know what their selling. You should know everything there is to know about what you're selling. If you don't know the answer to a particular question, a simple "I don't know, but I will definitely get that information for you" will ease the awkwardness. Just make sure that you get that answer quickly. 2. DO NOT be cheesy- How many of you truly enjoy car shopping? Most of the time you leave the car lot feeling used and abused. You do not want your potential customers feeling this way. If all you care about is your bottom line, your sales technique will ooze that nasty cheese out of every word you say. Contrary to a greasy, used car salesman, you need to be honest and genuine. Don't think about how much money you can make off of the sale, but think about what you can do for your customer. 3. DO follow through on EVERYTHING you say- You know how we just talked about a greasy, used car salesman? Well, nobody likes a slimy politician either. False promises are rampant among the many scams online. If you know that you have a quality business/product/tool, don't stoop to the level of these scams by promising to lasso the moon. Only promise what you KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt, you can deliver. 4. DO NOT disappear after the sale- There are many people that cash the check and run once the sale is made. I cannot begin to tell you how irritating this is to customers. Let's say you bought an expensive suit. You take it home only to find a hole that did not show itself in the store. You jump in the car and zip back to the store. When you arrive, you find that the store no longer exists. How can this be possible? You were just there 6 hours ago! That feeling of anger and annoyance is exactly how your customer feels when you don't take the time to resolve their issues. I am sure I could go on and on with the do and don't list, but the 4 mentioned above are probably the most important. Putting into practice what you have read is crucial to helping your business become successful. On the flip side, ignoring these sales tips could definitely be a detriment to your business.
